Janie York is a Hearing Instrument Specialist Licensed in NE and Iowa, owner of Hear Now, Mobile Hearing Solutions, a Recreation Therapist and Certified Dementia Practitioner. Janie is passionate about helping our elders hear and communicate with their families, friends and caregivers. No stranger to hearing loss, Janie has worn hearing aids and navigated hearing loss challenges for over 30 years. Now, as she provides hearing care to elders in the facilities they call home, those challenges become assets as she cleans, repairs and educates to help bring everyone back into the conversation. When not on the business end of a hearing aid in need of cleaning you’ll find her at her sewing machine or curled up with a good book or grandchild
She will be speaking on a brief history of hearing aids.

Steve served in the Air Force and is retired from Ameritrade. He is a 20 year member of the Lions Club and drives a Lions Mobile Screening Unit that visits and screens for vision and hearing loss at schools, public events and corporations statewide.

Beth Ellsworth, Advocacy Specialist, Nebraska Commission for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, will address the following issue: The NeAD is trying to get data to see if there is an interest in a special retirement center or independent facility for senior citizens who are either deaf or hard of hearing.
Our scheduled speaker, an FBI detective, had to cancel so our speakers this month will be Mary Dyer and Sheryl Butler
The speakers for the September 13th meeting will be Doug McElwain who will talk about the content of the workshops he attended at the national Hearing Loss Association convention in Washington, D.C. in June. Don Kluge will talk about his experiences traveling in Australia and New Zealand this summer.
Christine is a certified Deaf Educator who has previously taught listening and spoken language to deaf and hard of hearing children (PreK-12) for twelve years in St. Louis, MO as well as in Phoenix, AZ. Christine became a Consumer Outreach Manager for MED-EL in 2010. She travels extensively throughout the Midwest to support educators, SLP’s, educational audiologists, parents of deaf children and adult consumers. Christine educates others on MED-EL’s cochlear implant technology and middle ear implant technology as well as MED-EL’s many educational and aural rehab support services. She is the mother of a (grown) son who has been wearing a cochlear implant for 14 years.
